Our Projects

THE FACEBOOK PAGE

The Bulgarian Modernist Architecture Facebook page is the core of our group and the place where all our initiatives have started. By publishing and promoting buildings of the 1920s, 1930s an 1940s Modern Movement architecture in the social media we aim to reach the widest and most diverse audiences. The purpose of this promotion is the general public to understand this style better and thus to realize the true value of the modern architecture.

The Facebook page has more than 10.000 followers. About 10% of them are foreigners, so we translate all our publications in English. Friends of Modernism are part of our group without whom we could not exist. Important part of our discoveries and knowledge about the history of modernism in Bulgaria is a consequence of the activity of all these followers and admirers. Sometimes they are even heirs of architects or investors.

TRAVELING EXHIBITION

"Bulgarian Modernist Architecture: Examples from 1920s, 1930s, 1940s"

Our traveling exhibition is the first important action of the group in the public space. Our team has selected more than 30 representative objects from the period from variety of geographic locations and from different types of buildings - both public and private building, industrial architecture, examples of religious architecture. All the texts are both in Bulgarian and in English language.

The exhibition started in the end of April 2017 from Varna. Later it was presented in Burgas, Kazanlak and Sofia. We also plan to present it in Plovdiv and other cities in the country. Everywhere the exhibition is accompanied by lectures by the authors and discussions with the local people, as well as a tour of the examples of mid-war Modern Movement architecture in the city. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog, which can be found in the bookstores in the country.

The exhibition is realized with financial support of the Central Fund for Strategic Development at the New Bulgarian University, Bulgarian-European Cultural Dialogue Centre and in partnership with many organizations and voluntary work of architects, art historians, designers, etc.

THE CATALOGUE OF THE EXHIBITION

The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual (in Bulgarian and English language) book of 78 pages, containing all the information from the 30 boards. Since June 2017, it has been distributed to bookstores across the country.
